SEASON
2004 - 2005 PLAYOFF MATCH REPORT SATURDAY, 2ND APRIL 2005 - RAF JUNIOR WOMEN NATIONAL LEAGUE PLAY OFF QUARTER FINAL HARINGEY ANGELS 67 - 32 IPSWICH BOBCATS Ipswich Bobcats gave a creditable performance but could not prevent a 67-32 defeat at the hands of unbeaten Haringey Angels when the sides met in the Junior Women’s National League Play Off Quarter Finals in Hornsey on Saturday. Bobcats made a determined start and early baskets by Kerry Moore and a free throw by Natalie Field secured an early 5-4 lead, but Haringey inevitably stepped up their defence while Mrashi Karumba dominated on offence to score eleven first quarter points as Angels raced to a 21-5 lead. Bobcats made a brighter start to the second quarter when Field hit a basket from the corner and Lois Nunn made two successful lay ups to reduce the deficit to 25-11 but Haringey then piled on another ten points without reply. Natalie Field had little chance against Haringey’s height under the offensive boards, but found her range from three-point distance to end Bobcats’ barren spell and reduce the deficit to 35-14. Angels continued to dominate to remain good value for the 40-14 interval lead and Josephine Salmon hit a three-pointer at the restart to maintain Haringey’s domination. An inside basket by Kerry Moore was Bobcats’ only success for a full four minutes as Josette Campbell and Tazania Stewart scored to take Angels to an unassailable 55-16 lead. Field then scored a second three-pointer and Lauren Lindsay hit an inside basket to reduce the deficit to 21-55 going into the final quarter and the Ipswich captain was again on hand to score a quick lay up at the restart. Isobel Huntingdon strong inside play secured two impressive baskets in quick succession to cap a fine performance in her last game before heading off to university and Lauren Lindsay and Kerry Moore both added to their tally with late baskets as Haringey coach Dan Bowmaker gave an extended run out to his bench players. Natalie Field ended as Bobcats top scorer with 9 points and an impressive 6 blocked shots, and Lindsay’s final basket in the closing seconds ensured Bobcats highest score and lowest losing margin against Haringey in three meetings this season. Ipswich coaches Fay Greaves and Christel Macaudiere can be pleased that Bobcats qualified for the play offs in their first season back in the Junior Women’s National League, and with everyone but Isobel Huntingdon remaining eligible for junior competition next season have good reason to look forward to next September with optimism.
