Final Fixtures and Results for Season 2004 - 2005
MATCH REPORT
- Sunday 6 February 2005 @ Maidenhall Sports Centre At Maidenhall Sports Centre on Sunday it was the turn of the Girls Paserelle team to take centre stage as they continued with their National League season with two impressive wins over the visiting Chilton Pumas and Brentwood Fire Before a good crowd three good matches were played in this triangular tournament where rules insist that every player partakes in the game in the first two quarters with no substitutions allowed unless through injury. Game 1 – Ipswich Bobcats 52 – 19 Chilton Pumas The first five for the Bobcats to take the court were Ashleigh Durance, Hannah Durance, Roseanne Brown, Rosie Wowk and Laura Brocklebank and they started with all guns blazing as they shot out to 16 point lead with Brocklebank and Rosie Brown notching up 12 points between them. Chilton were finding it hard to even get the ball to the half-way line as the Bobcats applied a full court press resulting in no points being scored. The end of the quarter ended with bobcats leading 16 – 0. The next phase of the game saw Kate Brown, Emma Swain, Joanne Clark, Jasmine Caldwell and Gernice Blake take to the court in a low scoring quarter. Chilton did get on the scoreboard with two successful free throws. However Bobcats once again piled on the pressure and baskets from Clark and Caldwell meant a very healthy half time lead 30 – 2. The third quarter saw both camps put out their strongest teams which meant a slightly more even game but the Ipswich height advantage and pace was taking its toll. Laura Brocklebank, having a fine game, notched up a further 8 points ably assisted by Blake and Brown and although Chilton did reply at regular intervals the Bobcats stretched their lead to 44 – 11 by the end of the quarter. With the game virtually sealed the final quarter was even as coach Laura Shemming used all her bench to good effect. Bobcats ran out comfortable winners 42 - 19. The rules state that each team must have 10 players but ss the opposition only arrived with 8 they received a 10 point penalty thus the actual final score was 52-19. Bobcats Players & scores: - Katy-Ann Brown (4), Emma Swain, Ashleigh Durance, Roseanne Brown (8), Rosie Wowk (4), Jo Clark (2), Laura Brocklebank (16), Jasmine Caldwell (2), Hollie Durance (4) and Gernice Blake (4) Game 2 -. Brentwood Fire 42 – 32 Chilton Pumas The second game saw the two visiting teams go head to head and the game was well contested with Brentwood taking an early lead and maintaining it despite a spirited comeback from Chilton towards the end. What it did mean, to those watching, was that the final match could be very close. Game 3 – Ipswich Bobcats 45 – 37 Brentwood Fire The final game was always going to be a much closer affair and so it proved. Once again Ipswich benefited from the fact that Brentwood only had 8 players thus starting with a 10 point advantage thanks to the rules of the game. The first quarter started with both teams applying a press but Brentwood, led by their captain Lessman, who attempted to reduce the arrears and to some extent was successful with six personal points. At the mid point of the half the score was 14-7. Baskets from Rosie Brown and Brocklebank kept the scoreboard ticking over and at the end of the quarter the Ipswich lead was 16 – 11. The second quarter was once again closely contested and baskets from Blake, Caldwell, A. Durance and Wowk kept the Bobcats noses in front with a 27-21 half time lead. The third quarter saw Brentwood switch to a zone defence to try and stem the dominance of the Bobcats under the basket. A quick time-out by coach Shemming to change the tactics seemed to work as the Ipswich youngsters went on a 10 – 0 run to open up a health lead. Eight points from the impressive Brocklebank and four from Gernice Blake meant that the bobcats would start the final quarter with a comfortable 39 – 27 lead. The Bobcats received a bit of a shock in the final quarter as Brentwood gradually reduced the arrears quite dramatically when they scored 10 unanswered points prompting a time out and wake-up call by coach Shemming. Fortunately it did steady the ship as Bobcats ended the game strongly completing the scoring with the last 6 points and ending up with a 45 – 37 victory. These two victories mean that the Bobcats move to the top of their league with four games to play and a record of won 5 lost one. Their nest games are at Norwich next Saturday afternoon where they will face Norwich and another encounter with Brentwood. Bobcats Players & scores: - Katy-Ann Brown, Emma Swain, Ashleigh Durance (2), Roseanne Brown (6), Rosie Wowk (4), Jo Clark, Laura Brocklebank (12), Jasmine Caldwell (2), Emily-Jane Narramore, Hollie Durance (4) and Gernice Blake (9)

MATCH
REPORT At Maidenhall Sports Centre on Saturday it was the turn of the Girls Paserelle team to take centre stage as they opened their National League season with two impressive wins over Norfolk 58 – 12 and West Herts Warriors 38 - 20 Before a good crowd three good matches were played in this triangular tournament where rules insist that every player partakes in the game in the first two quarters with no substitutions allowed unless through injury. Game 1 – Ipswich Bobcats 58 – 12 Norfolk The first five for the Bobcats to take the court were Emma Swain, Ashleigh Durance, Roseanne Brown, Rosie Wowk and Jo Clark but nerves got the better of them causing missed shots and turnovers in abundance. The only two to score in this period were Wowk and Brown thus giving Norfolk a one point advantage 5-4 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter proved to be an entirely different matter as the five of Laura Brocklebank, Leanne Cullivan, Emily Narramore, Hannah Durance and Gernice Blake piled on the pressure and points which Norfolk had no real answer to. Blake hit eight points, Cullivan and Brocklebank four apiece as the Bobcats eased ahead on the scoreboard without any reply from Norfolk. The half time score saw the Bobcats lead 22 – 5. The third quarter saw both camps put out their strongest teams which meant a slightly more even game but the Ipswich power and pace was taking its toll. Alice Rowe entered the game for the first time but it was the silky skills of the talented guard Cullivan that caught the eye as she provided opportunities for others to score. Blake and Brocklebank scored further points, Jo Clark was taking valuable rebounds at both ends of the court, as the Bobcats reached the end of the quarter in total command leading 38 – 12. The final quarter became a bit of a blitz even though coach Laura Shemming used all her bench. Brocklebank, having a fine game, notched up a further eight personal points as Bobcats ran out easy winners 58 - 12 Bobcats Players & scores: - Alice Rowe, Emma Swain(2), Ashleigh Durance, Roseanne Brown (6), Rosie Wowk (6), Jo Clark (4),Laura Brocklebank (16), Leanne Cullivan (6), Emily Narramore, Hannah Durance (4) and Gernice Blake (14) Game 2 -. West Herts Warriors 53 – 9 Norfolk. The second game saw the two visiting teams go head to head and the game was virtually a mirror image of the first with the Warriors completing a comfortable win. What it did mean to those watching was that the final match could be very close. Game 3 – Ipswich Bobcats 38 - 20 West Herts Warriors Although having sat and watched the Warriors overcome Norfolk, in the previous game the Bobcats did not show any kind of nerves this time around and started the game very aggressively. Roseanne Brown put the first points on the board from the free throw line then Alice Rowe, Brocklebank and Ashleigh Durance also notched up points as the Bobcats took the opening quarter 9 - 0. The second quarter was a much the same as the Warriors struggled to keep the fast flowing Bobcats at bay. Gernice Blake was displaying excellent defensive skills in keeping the opposition point guard under pressure with a couple of excellent steals and breakaway baskets. Cullivan was also having a great match –up with the opposing guard and generally got the better of her. If there was one downside for the Bobcats it was the poor free throw shooting which is something that can be worked on in training. Bobcats held a comfortable lead 24 – 4 at half time. The third and forth quarters saw coach Shemming ringing the changes giving her all the team valuable court time in readiness of matches to come. The Warriors did stage something of a fight back as they reduced the arrears to just twelve points after two minutes of the final quarter but a couple of baskets from Brocklebank got the momentum going again. Cullivan and Blake hit the final two baskets to secure a good win 38 – 20. All in all a good solid start for the Bobcats with harder matches to come. However it will take a good organised team to upset what is quite a strong squad this year and I am sure the Bobcats youngsters may well be challenging for honours at the end of the season. Bobcats Players & scores: - Alice Rowe (2), Emma Swain, Ashleigh Durance (3), Roseanne Brown (2), Rosie Wowk (2), Jo Clark Laura (2) Brocklebank (6), Leanne Cullivan (7), Emily Narramore (2), Hannah Durance and Gernice Blake (12) Final Fixtures and Results for Season 2003 - 2004
