RAF National League Central Division SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY 2004

 IPSWICH BOBCATS 75 – 40 LEICESTER CANNONS

Ipswich Bobcats Cadette team returned to Maidenhall Sports Centre for latest National League where they continued their winning ways against Leicester Cannons.

The starting five for the Bobcats of Natalie Field, Lois Nunn, Kerry Moore, Victoria Brownsell and captain Lauren Lindsay took to the court and it soon became evident that the Bobcat youngsters were going to cause problems to the Leicester team.  Lauren Lindsay scored the first eight points of the game with her strong and dynamic play which prompted a Leicester timeout to re-assess the situation.  However the Ipswich team were proving far more aggressive at both ends of the court and the scoreboard was kept ticking over with more baskets from Nat Field, Lois Nunn and Kirstie Moore.  Leicester only managed to score nine points to the twenty three from the home team thus they ended the quarter very much in command 23 – 9.

The second quarter was very much a repeat of the first as the Bobcats piled on he pressure with Kerry Moore prominent on the score-sheet hitting ten points.  The only reply the Cannons could make was four points with two minutes left in the quarter.  Having such a big lead meant that coaches Fay Greaves and Christel Macaudiere could give all her bench valuable court time with Layla Weal, Roxy Chambers and Lois Newcombe getting in on the act.  A late rally by Leicester slightly reduced their arrears but the half time score of 43 – 16 meant the Bobcats were in the comfort zone.

The second half began with the familiar pattern of Bobcats dominance as they stretched their lead with baskets from Field, Moore and Chambers.  The only real threat came from the Leicester number seven Swift who was having a fine game for the opposition but once again the Bobcats stretched away to lead 61  - 25 by the end of the third quarter.

In the final quarter all the team played their part as they all got court time and despite a minor rally by Leicester the final result of 75 - 40.meant that the Bobcats maintained their second position in the National League and are now looking at home advantage in the end of season playoffs.

The crucial games will be in mid-March when they take on close rivals Essex Swifts who have a similar win/Loss record to Ipswich.
